3 year PhD position
PhD-project at Freshwater Biological Laboratory, Biological Institute, University of Copenhagen on autonomous data collection in Greenland
A 3 year PhD position is available in the project “Monitoring remote environments with Autonomous sensor Network-based data Acquisition” (MANA). The position relates to the development of an autonomous experimentation system, and is funded by NABIIT (The Danish Programme Commission on Nanoscience, Biotechnology and IT). The overall goal is to design and implement autonomous data logger systems that will be deployed for environmental monitoring purposes in lakes in North-West Greenland.
The work of the PhD study will focus on data acquisition, data analysis as well as ecological modeling of seasonal and annual trends in environmental parameters. The PhD student will also be expected to take part in the further development of the autonomous sensor system.
We seek a candidate with a background in natural science and with a strong biological profile that include some experience with numerical analysis of physical, chemical and biological data, statistical analyses, database handling and data acquisition. Some fieldwork in Greenland is to be expected.

Applicants must as a minimum provide an outline of interests/skills within the area of competences outline above as well as a detailed CV, documentation for any relevant degree(s) and supplementary education, experience from field work, and if possible suggest potential research ideas that may fit into the frame for the PhD project.
An assessment committee will evaluate the applications. The applicant will be notified of the composition of the committee. Each applicant will receive the part of the evaluation that concerns her/him.
The successful applicant will be enrolled as a PhD student at the Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen for the 3-year duration of the PhD programme. Information about the PhD programmes at the Faculty of Science can be found here.
Terms of appointment and payment in accordance with the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Federation of Professional Associations (AC). The post is covered by the Protocol on Job Structure.
