The Dept. supports increased knowledge transfer from frontline basic research to exploitation via:
• Targeted outreach to the industry and governmental agencies to share knowledge
• Collaboration with large industrial partners and SMEs
• Incorporating innovation in education
• Supporting departmental researchers that are also active in companies
• Providing start-up companies access to infrastructure and space at the Dept.
BIO-UCPH continually strives to strengthen the contacts to the private sector. Using co-publication as a proxy for collaboration, more than 248 collaborative interactions with companies have taken place from 2010-2015. These interactions have resulted in 178 joint publications with 139 unique companies from all over the world, as indicated in the table below.
The interactions can be grouped in a number of fields that underline the diversity of research at BIO.

BIO-UCPHs collaboration with international companies has almost tripled within the past five years. We interpret this a result of strong international relations and a demand for our research.
To also support national companies, BIO-UCPH is strengthening its communication with Danish companies. Thus, BIO has launched a strategic initiative aimed at offering open discussions concerning potential collaboration.

BIO continually works to strengthen our contacts to the private sector. Over the last three years alone, BIO researchers have collaborated with over 65 private companies and hospitals via hundreds of R&D projects.
BIO is supporting innovation at the student level by incorporating innovation modules in courses, supporting student projects in private companies or with representatives from private companies as co-supervisors as well as providing information concerning external innovation support offers, incl. spin-out initiatives.
Recently, BIO has launched an initiative to establish a ‘BIO-Hacking’ facility incl. basic laboratories and equipment. This will enable students to work independently with their own innovative ideas. The setup is currently being planned with input from the student associations.
Our policy is to transform basic research advances into applied innovation and products via collaboration with professional external partners, but our researchers also independently produce innovative patent applications and patents, for example:
