Do beavers improve biodiversity
Beavers (castor fiber) were re-introduced to Denmark (Klosterheden Plantage) in 1999 after having been nationally extinc for >2500 years. The beavers are thriving and the population is increasing.
Before the beavers were released, a series of of vegetation surveys were conducted in the river valleys in the release area. A re-investigation using the same methods, along with mapping of bevaer activity, will allow for a quantification of the biodiversity effects of beavers in a Danish context. The project involves botanical analysis in summer or early autumn and subsequet data analyses.
