PhD student

Profile:

I am a PhD student in the research group "Computational and Mathematical Global Health Group" at the Department of Epidemiology and "Social Epidemiology" at the Department of Social Medicine. My supervisors on the project are Professor Samir Bhatt and Associate Professor Terese Sara Høj Jørgensen. In my Ph.D. project, I will use register data to investigate if information on disease course with a psychiatric diagnosis improves the predictive accuracy, when developing a model predicting an individual's risk of developing dementia later in life. In the project, I will use neural networks to develop prediction models to predict dementia.

Primary research area:

My research is centered around social inequality in health with a focus on diseases of public health concern which are related to life conditions. In addition, I have a particular focus on psychiatric diseases in relation to treatment and later consequences of having a psychiatric diagnosis. I have several years of experience with registry-based research, including the use of advanced methods for epidemiological research.

Previous research:

In my previous research, I have investigated the role intergenerational relationships play in social inequality in health, more specifically the role children and their education have in their parents' health. In the study of the importance of social foreground, I have, among other things, investigated the importance of having children for treatment, worsening of illness and mortality within diseases related to lifestyle and living conditions such as diabetes, COPD and heart disease.

In addition, I have researched several affective disorders in my employment at the Center for Clinical Research and Prevention (CKFF). Here I have written my bachelor thesis, which led to a publication on the association between depression in adulthood and men's later risk of developing dementia. In addition, I have contributed to research where we have investigated treatment patterns within unipolar depression, bipolar disorder and sedatives for sleep disorders.
