The research of my laboratory is focused on the spatio-temporal organization and regulation of homologous recombination (HR) and its role in maintaining genome integrity. We take a cell biological and genetic approach to study HR in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae and in vertebrate cell lines. Particular areas of interest are regulation of chromatin structure during HR, post-translational modification of HR proteins and the molecular architecture of HR complexes in living cells. We are particularly interested in understanding molecular mechanisms relevant to cancer predisposition, neurological disorders and premature ageing syndromes, and in utilizing genetic recombination as a tool to generate combinatorial genetic libraries for biopharmaceutical applications.
