The effects of recycling bio-ash from power-plants to forests and fields

In ASHBACK, we examine the consequences of bringing ashes from biofuels back to fields and forests. The use of biofuel, e.g. wood and straw, is part of the strategy to reduce burning of fossil fuels.

For environmental reasons, it is desirable to bring back as much ash as possible for recycling of nutrients. However, presently it is only allowed to bring small amounts back, as we know only little of the eco-toxicological consequences.

ASHBACK is an interesting project, where we make research on these eco-toxicological consequences. Further it is an objective to decide threshold limit values, which can be used for ash-deposition in the future.
