Abstract
Protein aggregation is one of the major threats to human health in the coming century. Despite this, therapies for protein folding disorders remain scarce. In this lecture I will discuss current insights into how proteins fold; the nature of the protein-protein interactions that give rise to amyloid disease; and how a molecular understanding of these events is leading to renewed hopes for successful therapeutic strategies that target these deadly human disorders.
