My research interests are in line with the increasing challenges for plant production imposed by climate change. Climatic extreme events such as floods and droughts affect plant production worldwide. Moreover, current cultivation practices of staple food (i.e., rice, wheat, maize) increase the emission of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. I conduct research combining plant eco-physiological, morphological and anatomical analysis to identify plant traits associated with 1) tolerance to abiotic stresses (i.e., waterlogging, drought, salinity) and 2) reduced production and emission of greenhouse gases from crops. My research efforts aim to provide new insights, knowledge and strategies to develop both climate-adapted and low environmental footprint crops.
