N2 - The epiphytic lichen vegetation on solitary Quercus trees was investigatedon 13 locations in Denmark in order to test the usability of indicatorvalues to quantify ammonia deposition from the ambient air. Indicatorvalues calculated for each location corresponded well with the expectedecological conditions. The indicator values for nitrogenous nutrients significantlycorrelated with measured nitrogen content in Xanthoria parietinathalli sampled from the investigated Quercus trees. Indicator values forsome species are critically evaluated, and it is suggested that indicatorvalues can serve as a tool for quantitative estimation of ammonia deposition in relation to sensitive Danish ecosystems.
