Species distributions and biodiversity in space and time
Explaining and predicting the distribution of aquatic species, communities and biodiversity from local to global scales are fundamental challenges for freshwater ecology. Emerging evidence suggests that species functional traits play a pivotal for species distribution across spatial scales. We combine the analysis of large datasets on species distribution and environmental data with measurements of species traits from eco-physiological experiments. Results from these types of studies have a great potential to inform evidence-based restoration ecology.
