Introduction

The University of Copenhagen Protein Science Summer School aims to establish courses of central topics in modern protein science. The focus of this year's summer school will be protein folding and misfolding, intrinsically disordered proteins and computational characterization of proteins.

The course is being organized for Ph.D. students interested and working in the areas of Protein Science.

It is the sixth time we are organizing this school since 2002, and each time we have attracted highly profiled teachers and scientists as well as a most enthusiastic group of highly qualified Ph. D. students.

The format of the course is plenary morning sessions with scientific lectures by the invited teachers. In the afternoon there will be group preparations for round table discussions organized on the basis of material provided by the morning’s teachers, followed by three parallel round table discussions chaired, respectively, by the teachers.
Two days of the school are devoted to student talks. Each of the student participants have to present their work in plenum, and to upload a short summary file of their work prior to the start of the school.

There will be a one day off in the middle of the course allowing the participants to visit the spectacular ancient monuments (Mykene and the Theater of Epidaurus) on the nearby Peloponnesian Peninsula or doing a one-day trip to Athens to see The Parthenon and the city, or just to relax for a day on the island of Spetses.

The school is an excellent opportunity for both the students and teachers to establish professional and scholarly networks.
Also and this is indeed important for the school – it is taking place at this very nice location on the  Greek island of Spetses, which unavoidably has become the site of the memorable and stimulating social and scientific outcome to the participants of the previous schools.
 

There will be a course fee of 300€ to cover part of the expenses.

Teaching form

The school will offer 12 lectures and 12 round table discussions chaired by the invited lecturers. The students are required to be active participants in the round table discussions. The teachers will provide the students with literature etc for their preparation for the round table discussions.

Presentation of Ph. D. projects

The student participants will present an obligatory oral presentation of their Ph. D. projects and a brief written abstract.
